What Employees Want

In my profession one of the responsibilities that falls under my job title is to give exit interviews when someone decides to leave the company. One of the last questions I usually ask pertains to the employee’s time with the company. I ask them their favorite aspect of the company and what will they take away from their time here. The response is usually always the same. The most common answer I run into that employees take away from this job is the friendships/commodore that they have experienced during their time at the company. The second and third most common answer is work satisfaction and faith in management. Rarely ever was the issue of money ever brought up. This speaks volumes to what people find very important within a company. If you don’t enjoy the people you work with or the job you perform, not even a large paycheck is going to keep you there for the long term. Eventually you will become fed up with the job and look elsewhere. So although money is a determining factor in the jobs people accept it isn’t the number one determining factor.

Hi, nice post. I have been wondering about this topic,so thanks for posting. I will certainly be subscribing to your site.
Interesting post. Employees are motivated to stay or go by more than pay and benefits, there are some intangible benefits that employees also look for in a company such as their value to the company. The employees want to know that their individual activities and skills and works bring value and benefit to the company, that they actually contribute to the company and their works fit into the company’s big picture. Nice post.
