Are the Employees Your Company Interviews Lying on Their Resumes?

There has been a disheartening trend that has been occurring in the wake of the recent economy slowdown – the falsification of employee resumes. Resume falsifications are on the rise and will continue to climb as the economy falters due to the fact that many potential employees are trying to get that extra edge over their competition. I read an article the other day that said that many of the big name employment background screening agencies are reporting that almost half of the resumes and job applications they receive have some kind of false information in them. That is a staggering amount. I believe if the economy continues to slump that these numbers will only get larger. Everyday there are thousands of people that are being laid off and it is only a matter of time before they are desperate enough to falsify their resumes to appear more qualified than they actually are. Working for a HR outsourcing company this is information is really concerning. Knowing how much time, money and energy it takes to train the most qualified of individuals for a particular position is one thing but having someone that falsified their resume, squeezed through the cracks to get the position, only to have the hiring manager realize that they are not qualified at all, costs companies thousands of dollars and potentially weeks of downtime while they look for a new more qualified candidate.

  • Wow! What a blog you have here. You have a real knack for making a blog readable and easy on the eyes. Some sites look like train wrecks, but not this one - it’s a pleasure to read. Don’t have time to read all the articles, I found your site while looking for something else on about.com. But I’ve bookmarked your homepage and will visit it regularly to read what’s new. I find how to succeed at working from home a very interesting topic. I started a home-based business about six months ago and I have learned a lot in that time. I also started a small website about it myself. Seems like there is something new to learn all the time. Please bookmark my blog at http://www.LinkThe.com. I am always learning new things. Thanks again for a very enjoyable site!
